LIS 2004 Research Strategies for College Students

Students will gain knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed in college-level research by identifying, locating, evaluating, and using multiple information sources from the internet and library databases. The course includes developing topics and thesis statements, creating search strategies, and critically evaluating and ethically citing sources. These research and critical thinking skills are crucial for success not only in college but also in the workplace. This course is based on the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education ( https://www.ala.org/acrl/standards/ilframework ) that includes: Information Has Value; Information Creation as a Process; Searching as Strategic Exploration; Authority Is Constructed and Contextual; Research as Inquiry; and Scholarship as Conversation.
