Class Participation Standards

Regular class participation is required at Eastern Florida State College. Students are expected to attend all classes, actively participate, and complete all assigned coursework for the courses in which they are registered. To receive credit for a course, students must demonstrate continued class participation, as determined by the faculty member, and meet the competencies of the course.

Students who are reported by a faculty member as never attending or as having stopped attending a course during Class Participation Reporting (CPR) will be withdrawn from the class. Students receiving VA educational benefits are required to attend courses through the end of the term. If a student is withdrawn due to nonattendance or stopped attendance, their veterans benefits may be adjusted or rescinded accordingly.

It is the policy of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that students using VA educational benefits who withdraw from a class after the established drop deadline, or who are administratively withdrawn, may be required to repay benefits received for those classes unless the Department of Veterans Affairs determines that mitigating circumstances apply.

The only exception to this policy is VA’s one-time 6-credit-hour exclusion. Under this exception, VA may allow a student to withdraw from up to six credit hours one time without providing mitigating circumstances. This may reduce the amount of benefits the student is required to repay.
